What a guy...

Matt asked me to write a post about our new pillows. To put it mildly they were way overdue to be replaced. Like last year overdue. So we made a special trip to our favorite everything store, Bed Bath and Beyond and with their 20% coupon in hand bought new pillows.

Matt's reason for wanting me to post is the type of pillow we chose. He said its the absolute best because of the two names on it...His mother-in-law's and his wife's. He even wanted me to take this picture to prove his point. Matt continues to make me laugh and enjoy even the simple things like getting pillows on a Sunday afternoon. Love Him.

Life Lately...

I love spring in California...because really it's a lot more like summer in other states. The past 3 days we've been enjoying temps in the high 80s to low 90s. It's been glorious. I even have my first sunburn of the season. That part isn't so great...and the older I get the more I realize how important sunscreen is! But to have a little color on my cheeks sure is nice. The windows are open, the birds have hatched in their nest above our apartment and I even pulled out my spring decorations.

Reese and I got to enjoy some of spring's littlest blessings with daddy the other day...

Reese watching Daddy grill outside...they love having fun together!

And a little 25 week update on baby Allie:

From the update on babycenter.com it says Allie should be about 13.5 inches and a pound and a half! She's a little mover and especially loves to get active right when it's time for me to sleep. So funny how that happens. I still forget I'm pregnant. My tummy isn't really in mine or Reese's way (until I remember I can't squeeze through tight spaces anymore) and sleeping isn't to that uncomfortable stage yet. However, only 3 more weeks till the 3rd trimester! I'm enjoying every moment of having energy and not feeling overly huge!

Celebrating Reese and Matt

On Reese's actual birthday, mommy and daddy helped her open gifts from Aunt Diana, Nana and Poppy in Alaska and Great Grandmom Ryan. What we didn't know was that her "minor" cold was quickly turning into pneumonia that day which is the reason you see a shiny, runny nose in these pictures. Poor baby! It's been a solid two weeks of sickness between Reese and I that we are praying will end here shortly when her antibiotics are finished this Thursday. She's slowly becoming more of herself and her appetite seems to be returning. We're thankful for those answers to prayer!

First pair of big girl shoes!

Aunt Diana decorated my present with sweet messages all over.

My purple hat from Aunt Diana

The cutest shoes and a Fisher-Price clock from Nana and Poppy!

So big in my shoes...

Then to celebrate the March birthdays (of Matt and Reese) in the Mehringer family all 10 of us got together for some amazing Mexican food, presents, cupcakes and ice cream. We even went a little crazy with the birthday hats!

The big surprise this year involved Matt receiving an ipad for his birthday...we are very excited about this new toy in our home. Thank you to all our family who helped with this present. And a special thanks to Tad and Monika for their part in getting this for Matt!!

Happy 1st Birthday, Reese!

Dearest Reese,

There are not enough words to describe the joy and elation that your dad and I felt the moment we laid eyes on you a year ago today. The very first things we noticed about you were your dark, thick hair and the cutest little dimple in your chin. As soon as the doctor handed you to me, I breathed a very big sigh of relief. You were here on the outside with us and no longer a curiosity or wonder but a very definite reality. Of course all those kicks and nudges I felt told me we were having a baby but no longer did I have to imagine you. You were the most beautiful newborn to me and having seen many, many babies I felt justified in my (maybe) biased opinion.

You have taught me so many things in your short one year of life. I've learned to relax as a mom! Wow! Those first few weeks I felt as tight as a top trying to get everything right, making sure you were eating enough, sleeping when you should, weren't sleeping too much so that you'd sleep more at night and how to swaddle you so you wouldn't get out of your blanket. If I only knew that eventually you would sleep...it might have taken a long time but you got there! I learned that when you put your baby on a schedule, they stick to that schedule and things like going to church and missing your naps will just be a little bit harder. I've learned that sound machines do wonders for apartment living, that blueberries REALLY stain, that fevers last about 3 days and not to call the pediatrician as soon as one spikes because he'll tell me the same thing, and I'm slowly learning that when you want to be held and loved on...the dishes, dusting, vacuuming, laundry or dinner will wait.

Reesie girl, you have forever changed our lives! You made us a family and have brought so much laughter, life, energy and fun to our home. There have been hard times too but I know in those moments God was using them to cause me to cling to Him all the more dependently or to pray that much more earnestly. Daddy and I pray every day that you would know Christ as your Savior, that you would repent of your sin and understand that salvation is only through the work of Jesus Christ who died for you. We pray your heart would be tender and soft to His Word and that you would love Him all the days of your life.

And now...here's a look back on your first year. Happy Birthday sweet Reese Lanae!

Love, Mama
